Duerr Group is to supply Mercedes-Benz with coatings under a new long term agreement which aims to make vehicle painting CO2 free.
The pair will jointly plan and renew paint technology in the automaker’s German plants.
The first project is a sustainable paint shop in Sindelfingen for which planning has already commenced and Duerr expects a supply order in 2024.
The supplier said in a statement the goal was to “reduce energy consumption per painted car body to less than 400 kilowatt hours”.
The company added its software applications for energy management and energy efficient technology would help achieve the reduction.
“Optimising energy consumption in the painting process is the key prerequisite for being able to build cars in a climate neutral way,” said Duerr CEO Jochen Weyrauch.
