Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM) is considering producing electric vehicles in Egypt, according to reports in China, citing a statement released by the Egyptian ministry of industry and trade.

The minister in charge, Amr Nassar, said he met with officials at DFM to discuss opportunities to manufacture electric vehicles in the country with a view to selling them locally and exporting them to other markets in Africa and the Middle East, and also to Europe.

Nassar said Egypt offers incentives to vehicle manufacturers wishing to produce electric vehicles in the country as the country looks to benefit from growing global demand for these vehicles.

He added DFM was considering an offer to partner with an Egyptian state owned manufacturer to produce electric vehicles although the nature of the partnership had yet to be determined.

Li Zhengrong, vice president of DFM's Dongfeng Automobile Company, said his company was keen to set up an electric vehicle operation in the country targeting regional demand, adding he expected to export a number of vehicles from China to carry out local tests.
