The 2.4-litre, four-cylinder tC offers 160 horsepower in its standard configuration, with the option for a dealer-installed supercharger package to give it 200 horsepower, AP said, noting that final pricing hasn’t yet been set though Toyota says it will cost well under $US20,000.

Associated Press noted that Toyota rolled out the first two vehicles of the Scion lineup – the xA sedan and the xB subcompact – last year in California. From February 3, those vehicles will be available on the East Coast, the Southeast and the Gulf states while the tC goes on sale in June, at the same time the other two Scions will be available nationwide.

Scion vice-president Jim Farley told AP on Monday that, although the xA and xB are currently sold only in California, they already have been registered in 40 states. He reportedly said 75% of Scion buyers are new to Toyota and half of those who bought one of the nearly 10,900 sold in 2003 were under the age of 35.
