Nissan plans to hire as many as 20 new designers at the facility, which would double its staff, design chief Shiro Nakamura told AP on Sunday.

The company also plans to complete a new design centre in Japan by 2006, the report added.

AP said Nakamura spoke at the launch of Nissan’s Actic concept vehicle, a spare, sleek hatchback with a small Airstream trailer attached – the vehicle features handles that come out of its sides when a hand is waived in front of them.

Nakamura reportedly said Nissan is getting a reputation for new design but has a way to go before it reaches its goals.
