Michelin North America says it expects competitors to respond to today’s (14 January) launch of its new Premier A/S (All Season) tyre at NAIAS in Detroit.
The manufacturer maintains its new tyre for the North American market, which uses EverGrip technology, stops shorter on wet roads than its leading competitors
Available from this spring, the Premier A/S combines hidden grooves that emerge as the tire wears down, expanding rain grooves that widen over time to continue to evacuate water and a rubber compound for increased wet grip.
“When you are the leader we expect people to follow,” Michelin North America chairman and president, Pete Selleck, told just-auto at the Detroit show. “They will cut our tyres up and analyse our rubber – that is great – that will drive progress in the industry.
For his part Michelin COO North America passenger and light truck tyre division, Scott Clark, said the technology outlined in the Detroit launch, would filter through to other products of the company in the future.
“We believe it is the next great advancement in automobile safety – it is a bold statement and we make it with confidence,” said Clark.
