Audi has ‘borrowed’ the Gallardo supercar’s five-litre powerplant, developed jointly with Lamborghini, for its new V10 FSI-powered S6 quattro.
The new A6 flagship goes on sale in Europe shortly. Right-hand drive models will be available to order in the UK from April for first deliveries in July. ‘Avant’ estate (wagon) versions are being launched simultaneously.
The 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine, which appeared first in the S8 quattro, has a power output of 420PS at 6,800rpm and peak torque of 540Nm between 3,000 and 4,000rpm, with over 500Nm available from just 2,500rpm right up to 5,500rpm. It can do the 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint in 5.2 seconds (5.3 seconds for the Avant).
