Speaking at the Detroit show, management board chairman Norbert Reithofer said: “We want to continue the BMW Group’s success story in 2007. That is to say, we intend to achieve new sales records for every brand.”


The group boosted 2006 sales by 3.5% to 1,373,926 cars and SUVs. Sales of the BMW brand, rose 2.5% to 1,185,049 units.


Minis sales fell 6.2% to 188,072 deliveries due to work at the Oxford, England plant to boost production capacity and the production changeover to second generation of hatchback models.


Rolls-Royce sales rose 1.1% to 805 Phantoms with the new long wheelbase model accounting for 20% of volume, well above initial expectaions.


The top selling BMW group model remained the 3 series. Sales of saloon, touring, coupé and convertible models rose 17.1% to 508,498 units and should get a further boost this year as the new coupe-cabriolet version, with folding steel roof, goes on sale worldwide.


BMW motorcycle sales rose 2.7% to 100,064 vehicles in 2006.
