The first BMW to be called 2 Series will have its public debut at January’s North American International Auto Show.
Only the Coupé body style will be at the NAIAS but a replacement for the discontinued 1 Series Convertible will follow later in 2014.

In North America, the first model year for the 2 Series Coupe will be 2014. The eventual 2 Series Convertible should be new for North American markets’ 2015 model year.
The first model variants of the Coupé will be as follows:
- 105kW/143hp 1,995cc four-cylinder TwinPower turbo diesel 218d
- 135kW/184hp 1,995cc four-cylinder TwinPower turbo diesel 220d
- 135kW/184hp 1,997cc four-cylinder TwinPower turbo 220i
- 160kW/218hp 1,995cc four-cylinder TwinPower turbo diesel 225d
- 180kW/240hp 1,997cc four-cylinder TwinPower turbo 228i
- 240kW/326hp 2,979cc six-cylinder TwinPower turbo M235i
BMW says “the market launch” will be from March (presumably this means Europe). In North America, the launch range consists of the 228i and M235i.
The development codenames for the 2 Series Coupé and Convertible are F22 and F23. They have or will have the L7 architecture as their basis, along with an identical 2,690mm wheelbase to that of the second generation 1 Series hatchbacks.
