The Dart will take Dodge back into the compact sedan segment which it last occupied with the Neon (the Caliber replacement was a crossover style hatchback). The new car has recognisable Dodge characteristics such as a split-crosshair grille, projector headlamps and fog lamps and accentuated fenders plus full-width LED ‘racetrack’ tail lamps and a class-exclusive integrated dual exhaust.

The three engines are a new ‘Tigershark’ 16-valve two-litre, a 16-valve 1.4-litre MultiAir intercooled turbo engine, and a 16-valve 2.4-litre MultiAir I4 unit, also branded Tigershark.

The Dart will be made at Chrysler Group’s Belvidere assembly plant in Illinois after a US$600m spend on a 638,000 sq ft body shop, new machinery, tooling and material handling equipment. Work on the expansion began in summer 2010 and will be completed this year.
