Interfax reports that Ukrainian carmaker Evrokar plans to start producing Skoda Fabia cars early in June. Evrokar currently assembles Skoda Octavia cars.
Interfax says that Evrokar plans to increase production to 45,000 cars per year in 2003-2004 after implementing the second phase of its investment project. The first phase of the project will allow production of up to 15,000 cars a year.
Skoda plans to invest USD 15 mln in the project, and will raise that to USD 50 mln should the project prove successful.
Interfax also reports that Skoda sales in Ukraine in 2001 reached 4,212 units and the company is the leading car importer.
