The updated Skoda Octavia is now rolling off assembly lines in the Ukraine and Kazakhstan following the recent production start at a VW-GAZ joint venture factory in Russia.
The Octavia, assembled by local partner companies, is the automaker’s most popular model in both countries.
Production and logistics chief Michael Oeljeklaus said: “Now, by starting the local production of the third generation Octavia in both countries, we aim to continue this success story.”
In 2012, Skoda’s Ukrainian sales rose about 32% to 14,400 vehicles and market share to 6.6% from 4.9%. The Octavia, Fabia, Yeti, Superb and Roomster are assembled from SKD kits by Europcar in Solomonovo.
The Octavia, Fabia, Yeti and Superb, also shipped as SKD kits, are assembled in Ust-Kamenogorsk, northeast Kazakhstan, by Azia Avto.
Kazakhstan sales rose 158% last year to 1,900 vehicles.
