First came the up! and now Skoda too has announced a new four-seater small car, the Citigo.

While thus far Volkswagen has revealed only a three-door up!, the Citigo will be available from launch in both three- and five-door bodystyles. Engines will be the same 44kW/60PS and 55kW/75PS versions of a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which feature in the up!

The Citigo is claimed to be 3.56m long, 1.65m wide and 1.48m high, with a 2,420mm wheelbase. These dimensions are identical to those quoted by VW for the up!

Volkswagen Group will start building the up! and the Citigo on the same line at its Bratislava plant from October, while a variant for SEAT, said by sources to be badged ‘Mii’, will follow.

In a first for a Skoda vehicle, a portable navigation device is available for the Citigo. Just as it is in the up!, this device is fitted to the dashboard and can be removed and used on the go. The system provides not just navigation, but also hands-free calling with built-in Bluetooth and onboard infotainment via a 5-inch touch screen.

The Citigo will be launched in the Czech Republic by year-end, before going on sale across Europe from mid-2012. Skoda is yet to reveal pricing.
