In February Škoda’s worldwide deliveries increased 8.3% year on year to 76,000 vehicles, a record for the month.

Sales of the redesigned Fabia, introduced at the end of 2014, rose 11.7% in western Europe and 32.7% in central Europe but fell 16.7% worldwide.

“Škoda has made an excellent start to the year after a record-breaking 2014. The first two months have highlighted the brand’s positive momentum,” said sales and marketing chief Werner Eichhorn.

Western Europe brand sales increased 2.4% to 29,600 vehicles in February but slipped 300 units to 10,500 in Germany, the largest market in the region.

There was double digit growth in Spain (2,000 vehicles; up 27.5%), Switzerland (2,700; 14.2%), Italy (1,400; 24.9%) and Ireland (1,100; 11.9%).

In eastern Europe including Russia, sales slipped to 7,800 vehicles in February from 8,900 a year ago but market share increased to 5.1% from 3.7%. Russian sales fell to 5,600 from 6,400 but, again, market share increased, to 4.5% from 3.3%.

Central Europe February sales rose 12.4% to 14,500. In the Czech home market, sales rose 21.4% to 6,600 units.

In Skoda’s largest market, China, sales rose 24% last month to 17,700 vehicles.
