Czech car output rose to a record 970,000 units in 2009, up 3%, boosted by scrappage schemes in export markets, which helped offset the impact of the global economic crisis, the Association of Automotive Industries said.

“Our production was pulled up by support measures taken in many European countries, above all Germany,” association director Antonin Sipek told AFP.
Preliminary data suggested Skoda’s output in its home market dropped as the company moved part of its production to factories abroad, such as India and Russia.
On the other hand, the Toyota-PSA joint venture TPCA and Hyundai, which both focus on small cars, both raised output last year.
“For next year, we expect output roughly at the level of this year, that is some 950,000 to 970,000 units,” Sipek said.
