Hyundai Motor is considering building a new plant in the Czech Republic to boost its European manufacturing base, a local newspaper said on Wednesday.

The plant, if built, would be the third production base in Europe for the Hyundai Motor Group, after Turkey and Slovakia, the Korea Economic Daily reported, quoting an official of the automotive group, according to Reuters.
The company already has a plant operating in Turkey while its Slovak plant will start production in 2006, the report noted.
“The company is consulting with the Czech authorities about selecting the site and supportive measures, based on a plan to begin the construction around next May,” the unidentified official was quoted as saying.
A spokesman for Hyundai Motor told Reuters the company was looking at a couple of countries in Eastern Europe for a new plant, but no decision has yet been made.

Along with the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary were also being considered as possible sites, a company source told Reuters.
