A 14.4% year on year plunge in new commercial vehicle sales last month is concerning the local Motor Industry Association.

CV sales reached 3,527 and 7,500 year to date.

February 2020 registrations were down 2.2% to 11,438 units. 
 
Passenger vehicle and SUV sales rose 4.4% to 7,911 units.

"While it was pleasing to see the passenger and SUV market remain strong it is worrying that the commercial sector continues to be down, the fifth month in a row," the MIA said.

Pure electric sales were "steady" as 124 units sold in February while PHEVs inched up to 113 units and 551 hybrid vehicles were sold. 

The top models in February were the Ford Ranger (728 units), the Toyota Hilux (580) and the RAV4 (419).

Toyota remained the overall market leader with a 17% share (1,892 units), followed by Ford (11%, 1,222) and Mitsubishi (10%, 1,106).

After GM announced the end of Holden, the brand slipped to ninth with just 4% of overall volume.
