In September sales rose 9.7% over August and 35.2% year on year.

Year to date sales are 140,283 and, if the motor show acts as the traditional ‘13th sales month’, Econometria analysts forecast around 190,000 units for 2006.

This optimism follows last week’s announcement by the government’s transport minister who said petrol pricing will become a free market in 2008, prompting analysts to predict prices will increase 50% from today’s level.

Car makers reckon the Bogotá show will boost sales more than ever “because this is the first one during a big economy expansion since 1992.”

The Jaguar brand will be launched at the show along with new models like the Subaru Tribeca, Audi Q7 and redesigned TT, Nissan Micra, Chevrolet HHR, Daihatsu Materia and Copen, Renault Clio III, Chery QQ S23 and the Fiat Idea.
