Now Econometría statisticians have confirmed the bullish November figures: last month the 45 brands sold 30,963 in Colombia.

This was the best month since 1969, a 79.7% year on year growth and a YTD market increase of 37.0%.

“This will make 2010 the second best year in Colombian automotive industry and could be just 1.5% less than the best (2007), when consumers bought 253,034 vehicles”, said Juan García, Econometría CEO.

In the last two months, the Colombian peso reached its lowest level against the US dollar (COP1,793 = US$1), the currency with which most CBU and CKD imports are traded in, so products hit dealers and motor show stands at a very competitive prices. With the currency revaluation, credit got also cheaper.

Chevrolet sold 9,900 units in the month, 2,914 during the motor show; this is a 34% market share and projects the bow tie badge to its 25th consecutive year of leadership. Assemblers have 34% of the market while full importers have 66%.

Premium brands now represent 2.0% of the market and are led by BMW, who sold 300 vehicles in November and 1,802 YTD with a segment share of 39%. Mercedes-Benz and Audi tied with 1,124 vehicles and 24% each, followed by Volvo (9%), Porsche (2%), Land Rover (1%) and Jaguar (0.2%).
