China’s product safety watchdog on Friday warned drivers of imported Toyotas to have their cars checked for possible defects, following the recall of millions of vehicles worldwide.
Over 75,000 Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicles made at a Toyota joint venture in China have already been recalled to check for faulty accelerator pedals but the new move affects models likely bought abroad, news agency AFP noted.

“More cars with the flaws may be still in use in China,” the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement.
Consumers who drive certain models including the Tundra, Camry or Corolla built in the United States or Japan should immediately check with Toyota service centres to see whether their cars are affected by the recall, it said.
The Chinese watchdog body did not say how many cars were possibly affected. It added it would decide whether to “take further measures” based on information collected.
