A Reuters report says that the line would be capable of producing as many as 140,000 units per year, citing as source a company spokeswoman.

The assembly line, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($145 million), is scheduled to start operation in the second half of next year making Audi A4 and Q6 models, the spokeswoman told Reuters.

Current Audi capacity at the venture with China’s FAW Group is 100,000 units, she said.

China was Audi’s biggest market outside of Europe in 2007 with 101,996 units sold, up 24.8%.

Locally produced cars accounted for 93,168 units, up 21%. The A6 was the biggest selling model (73,404 units, up 19%), followed by the A4 (19,764 units, up 27%).

Growth this year is being fuelled by the market launches of the R8, A5 and S5.
