Volkswagen Group China sales in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau rose 13.1% in the three quarters to 772,783 units, meeting target despite the global economic downturn, rising raw material prices and natural disasters (recent mainland earthquakes), and is maintaining its 1m-unit full year forecast.

Volkswagen sales rose 7.5% to 637,857 units, including 8,155 imported vehicles, VW said in a statement cited by newswire XFN-Asia.


Audi sales rose 19.2% to 89,715 units, including 9,899 imports, Skoda sales soared 218.1% to 44,829 units; this brand is a recent introduction.


The group also sold 209 of its premium Bentley and 73 Lamborghini sportscar models, reflecting growing emerging market demand for such expensive cars.


Volkswagen, which has two local manufacturing joint ventures which make a number of models unique to China – Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen – said new model launches and service upgrades helped it meet its nine-month sales target.
