A gold mini-van named ‘Chang’an Star’ was the one millionth mini-vehicle off the Chang’an Automobile Group Company production line in Chongqing, the most important industrial city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the People’s Daily reported in its online edition.


The Chang’an Company originally made military products but switched to civilian goods, mostly minivans and minicars, in the early 1980s, the report said. The first civilian vehicles were sold in 1984.

The Chongqing-based group has five vehicle plants in other districts of Chongqing, Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, and Hebei Province in addition to the main factory based at company headquarters.


The group has a combined annual vehicle production capacity of 250,000 units and 240,000 engines, the People’s Daily said.
