China’s truck industry has contracted for two successive years, as its economy has slowed. Sales of cargo carriers reached a record 3.86 million in 2010, but then declined 8.18% to 3.55 million in 2011 and 6.8% to 3.3 million in 2012.
The heavy duty truck segment continued to see a sharp decline in 2012, but mini truck sales rose 8.7%, reports China Auto Web. The ten largest manufacturers of heavy duty trucks reported double-digit declines in 2012. With 131,000 deliveries, Dongfeng retained its leading position. The company was followed by Sinotruk, which overtook FAW.
