Toyota Motor (TMC) says it will establish Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing China (TMEC) in the Changshu South-East Economic Development Zone in Changhus.
TMEC is to start partial operation in the spring of 2011.

The site will allow TMC to conduct market-environment research and R&D in China and supplements the activities of TMC’s existing R&D centres at its Chinese joint-venture companies.
In addition to co-operation and joint research with TMC’s R&D centres in Japan, TMEC will undertake a range of activities such as: a survey of how vehicles are used in China and the verification of the quality of vehicles introduced into the China market.
Other activities will include the investigation and research into energy-saving and alternative-energy vehicles in China, as well as development of engines for the country.
