The first complete vehicle Toyota has ever built in China, the Coaster medium-size
bus, will begin rolling off the line in Chengdu, Sichuan this week and be launched
in February, reports Asian AutoNews.

An imported Coaster sells for about Rmb600,000 (US$72,580) in China. The 22-seat
standard model, manufactured in China, is expected to be priced at sells Rmb200,000
(US$24,195). A luxury model will sell for about Rmb300,000 (US$36,290).

The standard model will have a local content ratio of 60%; the luxury model
will have local content of 40%. Toyota’s partner is Chengdu-based Sichuan Station
Wagon Factory which employs 2,800 people. Toyota group owns 50% of the joint
venture (Toyota Motor Corp. 45%; Toyota Tsusho 5%), which is capitalised at
US$65 million.
