Sales have not kept pace with production at Guangdong and Toyota slowed production by about 10%, the Japanese business daily Nikkei said.
Toyota was expecting to sell 700,000 cars in China this year, up 40% year on year, but sales fell 6.2% in August, the first decline in more than two years.
China’s car market is continuing to cool in response to higher petrol prices and weakening consumer confidence. It was down on year-ago levels in the months of July and August, though cumulative sales this year remain 13% up.
