Problems with oil pipes prompted the recall, the Chinese company, based in the southwestern city of Chongqing, reportedly said in a statement posted on its web site. The recall involves one type of Alto model produced between September 4, 1999 and March 26, 2004.

The oil pipes in the affected cars may become dislodged if the cars shake violently, possibly leading to wear and tear of the pipes, the statement said, according to AP.

The company reportedly said it would pay for all repair costs associated with the recall.

Apart from its venture with Suzuki, Changan Automobile has a 50-50 joint venture with Ford, the Associated Press noted.
