Suzuki Motor Corp. said on Wednesday it has started production at a new engine plant the firm and its joint venture Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki Automobile Co. built in Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, China, according to Kyodo News.


Suzuki chairman Osamu Suzuki attended a ceremony to open the plant on Tuesday as phase one of construction of the plant was completed to produce 1.4-litre K14B engines with an annual production capacity of 75,000 units, it said.


In the next phase, Suzuki said, the production capacity will be doubled.


The engine will be installed in the Wagon R Wide that Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki is producing. It will power new models as well, Kyodo News said.
