The new gives Ricardo a “tangible presence” in the rapidly expanding Chinese automotive industry, the company said in a statement, adding that customer demand was one of the original drivers for such a presence, which has resulted in “a number of significant recent business awards” from Chinese customers.
Ricardo has been active in the Chinese market for a number of decades but its business activities in China have grown substantially in recent years. It has traditionally supported the western joint venture organisations with its extensive international network of technical centres.
Most recently, Ricardo has also been assisting the domestic Chinese automakers in the development both of their own product ranges and in training and technology transfer to enable the development of their own research and development capabilities.
“China is an increasingly important market for Ricardo as demonstrated by the significant programs already in progress with Chinese customers,” said Ricardo CEO designate David Shemmans.
