A former senior Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation executive has joined Ricardo Shanghai as vice-president for business development.

A company statement said Ken Weisman would join from SAIC where he has been a vice president since 2004.

Additionally, he was also a non-executive board director of Ricardo 2010 Consultants, the UK company set up in China to help SAIC Motor establish in-house engineering capability. The firm assisted with the development and production of SAIC’s updated version of the Rover 75, the Roewe 750, including Chinese-made engines.

Ricardo director Mark Garrett said: “The Chinese market is one of the world’s most vibrant automotive sectors and is of crucial importance to [us], where there is a high demand for our approach to providing advanced technology tailored to the needs of our customers.  Weisman brings both long-standing and in-depth experience of this market and will help spearhead the client-facing aspects of the next phase of [our] growth in China. ”
