Jinhua Youngman Automobile Manufacturing told Reuters it would sell a 1.6-litre “sporty” car based on Proton’s Gen-2 priced between 100,000 to 150,000 yuan ($US13,310-19,970).
Reuters said the Chinese firm did not provide volume targets, but noted that Proton had said last month it planned to make a debut in China by supplying 30,000 cars to Jinhua Youngman.
A major Chinese bus maker, Jinhua Youngman entered the passenger car sector in 2004 after taking control of a small car maker in the southwestern province of Guizhou, the report said.
Proton will initially export its cars to China, but Jinhua Youngman, with annual car production capacity of 150,000 units, will gradually shift to local production, the report added.
