It is not, however, the first Japanese automaker to export its Chinese-built product – Honda already ships both left- and right-hand-drive Fit/Jazz models to Europe and elsewhere, having become the first foreign automaker to secure government approval for an export-focused factory.


The Egypt export Nissans are built by the Dongfeng Nissan 50/50 joint venture which makes a number of other models including the Chinese-market version of Nissan Europe’s smash-hit Qashqai crossover and the Tiida compact sold in the US as the Mexican-built Versa.


Chinese automakers are developing export markets on their own, making inroads into countries like Egypt and a number of South American countries.
