Hyundai Motor has started production of heavy trucks at its newly built plant in Ziyuan, in China’s Sichuan province.
The plant, a joint venture with local partner Sichuan Nanjun Automobile, was completed in 2012 and began production of the County medium-duty bus earlier this year.
Hyundai expects sales of heavy trucks to grow steadily in China in the foreseeable future, driven by the continued urbanisation of the country and further development in central and western provinces.
The automaker said its Trago Xcient heavy truck range will compete head on with trucks from European manufacturers such as Daimler and Volvo.
