Hyundai Motor chairman Chung Mong-koo has said the company may add production facilities to its Chinese operations in response to rapidly rising sales.

According to Hyundai Motor, Chung said during a visit to Beijing Hyundai Motor Co. that while there are no detailed plans as of yet, such developments will come in time.
At present, Hyundai has two plants in China with a combined annual production capacity of 600,000 units.
Kia Motors Corp. also operates two plants in China under the JV Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor Co. with a combined annual production capacity of 430,000 units.
The two brands have seen sales in China soar this year.
Hyundai Motor said this week that it expects car sales in China this year to jump 83 percent from 2008, led by new models and as economic stimulus measures spur demand in the country.
Hyundai and Kia see combined sales of 800,000 vehicles in the world’s top car market this year, compared with 436,514 units last year, the group said in a statement.
In China, Hyundai has sold 460,000 cars in the first 10 months of the year, up 89.3 percent from a year ago, with Kia’s sales up 55.3 percent during the period.
