General Motors in China has defended the prices its charges for aftermarket parts.

The head of the company’s Chinese unit has told Nikkei that it charges reasonable prices for replacement parts.

The Nikkei report said that GM China President Matthew Tsien said in a conference call that GM’s parts prices in China are not high by international standards.

The report added that Tsien also said that GM China JV Shanghai General Motors has been in contact with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) since 2012 regarding the parts pricing issue.

The NDRC is currently investigating the automotive aftermarket sector in China and has said it will fine car companies and suppliers for anti-competitive practices regarding the prices of aftermarket parts and services.
