AP said the China Daily reported that GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. is seeking 80 million yuan ($US9.7 million) in compensation, alleging Chery’s QQ mini car copied its Daewoo Matiz and Spark brands, which Chery denies.

The news agency noted that GM Daewoo initially sued Chery in December in Shanghai but the defendant objected on jurisdictional grounds, leading the Supreme People’s Court to appoint a Beijing-based court to handle the case.

The report added that GM Daewoo also alleges Chery used a camouflaged Matiz to pass tests and obtain authorisation from the government to produce and sell the QQ.
