Geely reportedly said that in the past it had held talks towards cooperation with Rover before another Chinese car maker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC), held rescue talks for the 100-year-old firm that ultimately failed.
“There is a possibility that we may buy one or two facilities or pieces of machinery from Rover,” Lawrence Ang, Geely’s executive director, told Reuters.
The news agency noted that Rover has already sold the intellectual property of its mass production cars, the Rover 25 and Rover 75, to SAIC.
