Ford has said its sales in China, including both imported and locally made, rose 22% year-on-year to a total of 33,621 vehicles in the first half of the year.

In a statement cited by AFX News, the US car maker said sales of imported Ford Maverick [Escape] and Lincoln Navigator models achieved a record high year-on-year growth rate of 334% for the six-month period, mainly on ‘hot sales’ of the Maverick.


The newly-imported Lincoln Navigator, which was launched in late May, is gaining sales momentum and a stronger sales performance is expected in the second half of the year, it said in the statement.


Sales of the Mondeo and Fiesta, manufactured by Ford’s China joint venture Changan Ford Automobile, were up 11% in the first half of the year from a year earlier.


The company reportedly said it also expects the China-made Ford Focus, for which the company will start taking orders on August 1, to be a major driving force for Changan Ford’s sales growth into the second half of the year.


The Transit, Ford’s commercial vehicle model manufactured by Jiangling Motor Co Ltd, registered 42% sales growth from a year earlier, the AFX News report added.
