Ford sales in China increased 40% last month over September last year to 28,669 units, boosting the total number of its registrations in the country to 385,957 so far this year, up 10%.
Joe Hinrichs, chairman and CEO, Ford China, and president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, said that China accounts for 60% of the carmaker’s sales in the region.

He added: “Ford’s growth plan is now in high gear. By 2015 we will have 15 new vehicles in China that offer a full line-up of high-quality, safe, fuel-efficient vehicles with smart technologies that Chinese consumers want and value.”
Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), sold 28,126 Ford-brand units in September, up 6% from the same month a year ago and CFMA total sales were 34,181.
Top seller was the Ford Mondeo which jumped 37% last month to 5,791 units.
Sales at Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s commercial vehicle venture in China, reached 149,352 units in the first three quarters of the year, up 12% from the same time last year. In September 2011, JMC sold 15,542 units.
Last month Ford and its partner Changan Automobile Group broke ground on a new US$350m transmission plant in Chongqing, bringing Ford and its partners’ total investment in China to US$3.5bn.
