FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd., a joint venture between FAW and VW in China cannot raise the output of 1.8T Magotans with six-speed dual clutch automated-manual transmissions, due to restricted supply of these dual-clutch transmissions.

A report by SinoCast said that the transmission on Magotan, a medium-and high-grade sedan model, is supplied by Japan-based Aisin AW Co., Ltd., which exports a limited number of such transmissions to the Changchun-based venture.

The report said there was no timetable on local supply on the gearboxes to ease the supply bottleneck on imported units.

Demand for the Magotan 1.8T AT/MT variant in China is high, according to the report.

The report added that the Passat Lingyu will not suffer supply shortage of gearboxes because it is equipped with Tiptronic5 dual clutch automated-manual transmission.
