The FAW-Volkswagen Automotive company – the joint Sino-German auto venture
– sold a record 110,000 cars for 2000, according to the Xinhua News Service.
The company – founded in 1991 and now China’s second largest auto-manufacturer
– topped its 10,000 per month sales target last April as well as achieving
the second biggest market share in China.

The joint venture – based in northeast China’s Jilin province – increased
annual production levels for the Audi model from 13,000 to 15,000 units, with
all 15,000 vehicles produced sold by the end of November.
The company is run jointly by First Automobile Works, Audi and Volkswagen and
produces both VW Jetta and Audi A6 cars, with investment totalling 11.1 billion
yuan ($US2.3 billion).
