“FAW-Volkswagen is a leading passenger car manufacturer in China and we look forward to delivering our lithium-ion battery units to power its new electric car. Our cooperation with FAW-Volkswagen demonstrates our technological strength and market recognition. Upon successful testing, we expect to expand the scope of our cooperation and hope to receive additional orders,” commented Xiangqian Li, CEO of China BAK.

An EV, which sources claim might be called ‘E88’, is expected to be launched in China as the first model for the FAW Volkswagen joint venture’s forthcoming Kaili brand. The car is thought to be based on the Volkswagen New Bora. The brand is also referred to as ‘Kai Li’ and can be translated as ‘carrier’. Prototype cars have also been spotted with ‘Carely’ badges.

FAW Volkswagen’s forthcoming Foshan plant is expected to be the build location for the plug-in car.
