Dongfeng Nissan’s Dalian plant, which will become the hub for the company’s SUV production in China, has started production bringing the joint venture’s number of assembly operations in the country to four.
Dalian is being developed in two phases with a spend of RMB5bn (US$816m) for an initial production capacity of 150,000 units a year. A second phase will expand this to 300,000 units.

First vehicle off the line was an X-Trail SUV.
Nissan’s chief performance officer, Trevor Mann, said: “The Dalian plant is a statement of our commitment to China and our efforts to continue delivering high-quality products to Chinese consumers nationwide.”
The Dalian plant is Dongfeng Nissan’s first plant in northern China while the Huadu (1st and 2nd) plants are in the south and the Xiangyang and Zhengzhou plants in the centre.
