One report by Associated Press (AP) said Dongfeng already has a joint venture with Nissan Motor, which is [44%] controlled by Renault.

“We are talking with Renault,” Dongfeng president Miao Wei told AP on Monday at a news conference. Asked whether a Renault Trucks joint venture would be placed under Dongfeng’s Nissan venture, Miao reportedly said: “All other details are still under discussion.”

Associated Press said a Dongfeng-Renault venture would add to a recent surge in foreign investment in China’s motor vehicle industry where General Motors, Volkswagen and others have already formed ventures with Chinese partners, hoping for a share of the country’s growing market.

Cars produced by the Nissan-Dongfeng venture bear the Nissan name, while trucks and commercial vehicles carry the Dongfeng brand, AP said, adding that the joint venture is expected to sell 240,000 commercial vehicles and 90,000 passenger vehicles next year.
