Chinese vehicle manufacturers have reported a 66% rise in profits in the first half of this year thanks to strong production growth.

According to the Xinhua news agency, first half profits were 30.2bn yuan or almost $US4bn. This compares with 11.98bn yuan a year ago.
The data was compiled by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Its statistics show that the top 16 vehicle manufacturers generated revenues of 486bn yuan, an increase of 27%.
The top three manufacturers, FAW, Shanghai Automotive Industry and Dongfeng Motor, all generated revenues of over 80bn yuan, according to Xinhua.
