Ford has confirmed that the Chinese central government has approved the split of the three-way joint venture between Ford Motor, Mazda Motor and Chongqing Changan into two separate entities.
The current joint venture consists of two separate manufacturing operations, in the cities of Chongqing and Nanjing.
The new entities will be temporarily known as Changan Ford Automobile, based in Chongqing, and Changan Mazda Automobile, in Nanjing.
Ford’s chief executive officer Alan Mulally told reporters that he is pleased with the way the restructuring and regulatory process that is currently under way.
