Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automobile is scheduled to begin production of the Range Rover Evoque a week from today on 21 October, 2014.

The two partners have spent CNY10.9bn (US$1.78bn) on the joint venture, which will produce both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles when fully operational, as well as joint venture branded vehicles.

The plant will have an annual production capacity of 130,000 units per year after its first phase of expansion and R&D facilities to develop new models under local brands.

JLR’s mainland China dealer network will be expanded from the current 150 to more than 200 by 2016, with expansion aimed mostly at smaller cities. In the same timeframe, the company also plans to expand its global network of dealers by 26% to 3,100, from the current 2,530.
