Chongqing Changan Automobile Company reportedly will establish a presence in America by opening a research centre in Detroit.
Changan is the first Chinese automobile company to establish such a centre in the US, marking further development of the Chinese automobile industry tapping into foreign sources, Gasgoo.com reported.

Changan’s US venture will focus on chassis research, design, development and construction and applied to planned mid- and high-grade sedans and multi-purpose SUVs.
By opening a research center overseas, Changan hopes to takes advantage of international talent.
“Establishing the US research centre will supply Changan Motors with international automobile science and technology and will be an important driving force in improving the global automobile industry,” company CEO Xu Liuping said.
Changan has previously opened research centres overseas in Turin, Yokohama and Nottingham, England, specializing in exterior design, interior design and engine/transmission, respectively.
The company also has domestic centers in Chongqing, Shanghai and Beijing, as well as in Heilongjiang and Jiangxi provinces.
With the establishment of its American centre, Changan will fulfill its goal of having a research and development system with nine locations spanning five countries, with each location specialising in a particular area.
Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai are among other foreign brands already operating US R&D centres in the Detroit region.
