Shanghai General Motors will start delivering its locally-made Buick Sail compact saloons to customers on June 8, AutoAsia Online reported.
Based on the previous-generation Opel Corsa, the Sail is similar to a GM Brazil-developed saloon model made in South America and South Africa.

It is “the first true modern family car built in China”, according to GM China which claims to have already received 16,000 orders with deposits.

The Buick Sail is offered with three different trim levels priced from Rmb100,000 (US$13,000) to Rmb125,000 (US$15,100). The cars will be delivered and sold through more than 60 authorised service centres around the country, AutoAsia Online said.

By GlobalDataThe Sail has a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual gearbox on the SL and SLX models. The top-level AT has a four-speed automatic transmission and leather upholstery.
GM says the Sail is the first compact car in China to include safety features such as dual front airbags and antilock brakes.
A two-year, 40,000km (25,000-mile) warranty and two free oil changes are included in the price, AutoAsia Online said.
More than 100 engineering and design modifications were made to the Sail to meet Chinese regulations and customer preferences.
Local content rate exceeds 40 percent in line with Chinese government requirements, the website added.
