GM will sell its first hybrid cars in China in July. The Buick LaCrosse will be the second hybrid to enter the Chinese market, following Toyota’s Prius in early 2006.

GM said the LaCrosse would be the first hybrid made in China. The Prius is assembled from imported kits.
GM plans to introduce a hybrid Cadillac Escalade SUV in China next year, followed by an all-electric car as early as 2010.
The Shanghai-built Buick LaCrosse Eco-Hybrid can achieve fuel economy of 8.3 litres/100km compared with 9.8 litres for non-hybrid models.
The GM JV had also said it plans to start selling fuel cell-powered vehicles in China after 2010.
GM also said its Shanghai venture aimed to launch 11 engines that offer better fuel economy between 2009 and 2012.
